Dr. Gail Hirschfield is a welcomed new addition to Breckenridge and the Breckenridge Medical Center. She is married to Stuart Hirschfield, who runs a web mall. They have two grown sons, three dogs and a parrot.

After graduating from the University of Houston, Dr. Hirschfield entered the University of Texas Medical Branch School in Galveston, earning her degree as Doctor of Medicine. She took and passed her exams for Board certification in Family Practice. "I have made sure to maintain my certification ever since."

"My father and mother always encouraged me to go into medicine," Dr. Hirschfield says. "Dr. Ellis was our family doctor in Houston and I was especially attracted to how caring he was for all of us. I liked that and I wanted to do that, too."

"I started out in private practice in Sealy, Texas. I worked with a large multispecialty group in Wharton, Texas. I have worked in the state school system as medical director. More recently I worked again in a private practice in Snyder, and briefly in a clinic in Eastland."

"I was looking for a community of professionals which was dedicated to patient care in a mutually cooperative way. I found all that in the hospital leadership, and among the physicians and providers I am working with here. And we have a wonderful staff that supports us and takes good care of the patients. We have the mutual professional support, and expertise of other providers. No one has all the answers. But many have more answers. Together we can see more patients. This means that the citizens of Stephens County don't have to travel to Abilene or Fort Worth for their regular medical care."

"I have a special interest in looking after the medical and health needs of the women of Stephens County. I want the women of Stephens County to be able to see me or Becky McIntire, who is our Nurse Practitioner."
